Borders names new CIO, e-commerce exec
Ann Arbor, Mich. Borders Group is beefing up its information technology group with the addition of Scott Laverty who will serve as the company’s CIO, and Paul Devitt, who was named director, e-commerce systems.
Laverty, a 25-year retail IT veteran, will be responsible for the vision, direction and execution of all IT systems used across the chain’s corporate office, its 1,000 stores, the Borders.com Web site, and the chain’s distribution centers. He was recently a partner with Armonk, N.Y.-based IBM.
Meanwhile, Devitt will be responsible for the design, architecture and execution of Border’s e-commerce systems. He is tasked with ensuring all technology meets the company’s functional, technical and operational requirements, and that all projects fit within set capital budgets.
Prior to joining the book retailer, Devitt was senior manager of e-commerce technologies at Circuit City.
