Best Buy wants to help its customers stay connected — for a price.
The consumer electronics chain’s Geek Squad is taking on local Internet service providers by launching a new service, called Wi-Fi Setup & Support, that offers comprehensive, personalized home Wi-Fi setup either over the phone, Web or in the customer’s home.
In addition to coming to the aid of anyone frustrated by networking issues, including slow speeds and buffering, the service provides in-home or remote setup, as well as ongoing 24/7 support for home Wi-Fi and connected Wi-Fi enabled devices.
Geek Squad agents will also optimize router performance, configure advanced settings, and solve problems that cause slow speeds, buffering and sluggish connections.
The new support service is available for $99 for one year.
“Our wireless networks are truly the backbone of our personal technology because they control how we entertain, do our work, stay connected, and even light or heat our homes,” said Matt Bonin, VP of Geek Squad Services at Best Buy. “The service gives people the peace of mind that they have a partner to not only help them set up their routers, but keep their Wi-Fi performing.”
