The retail arm of Robert Redford’s Utah-based Sundance Institute for independent filmmakers has scored a smash hit in Connecticut.

The Sundance store in downtown Westport—a colony of more than 100 tony shops and restaurants—will host a customer appreciation event on July 28th in association with the town’s Museum of Contemporary Art to celebrate the first anniversary of the store. It is the brand’s only location in the Northeast.

“This our way of saying thank you to the Westport community, especially to our loyal customers, for making our first year an incredible success,” said Sundance CEO Marty Erdos. “For years, our loyal customers in the surrounding area have participated in the Sundance lifestyle through our beautiful catalog but now have the opportunity to experience the authentic Sundance lifestyle, and our outstanding customer service, in person.”

MoCA executive director Ruth Maness added that Sundance’s commitment to inspiring art and cultivating creativity is aligned with the museum’s own mission. “This partnership will help us to continue to provide thought-provoking and relevant arts experiences that are accessible to all,” she said.

The Sundance Institute’s retail arm presents shoppers with premium-quality women's and men's apparel and footwear, jewelry, accessories, art, and home décor. There are 18 other Sundance stores in the United States in locations that include San Antonio; Deer Park, Ill.; Dallas; Lone Tree, Colo.; and Leawood, Kan.

Sundance’s neighbors in downtown Westport include Design Within Reach, Patagonia, Johnny Was, Bar Taco, Lululemon, West Elm, and Tiffany & Co.
