Report: Pizza giant becomes latest data breach victim
Pizza Hut is the newest chain to be compromised by cyber-thieves.
Cyber-criminals gained access to transaction data for orders placed on the company’s website or mobile app between the morning of Oct. 1 and midday Oct. 2. The company alerted customers via email about the attack on Saturday — almost two weeks after the incident occurred, according to The Miami Herald.
The incident was described as a “temporary security intrusion” since it lasted for about 28 hours. Pizza Hut’s correspondence with customers revealed that the hackers pilfered names, billing ZIP codes, delivery addresses, email addresses and payment card information — such as account numbers, expiration dates and CVV numbers, the report said.
Pizza Hut’s notification to customers explained that the intrusion impacted less than 1% of the company’s website visits — about 60,000 people — during the span of the breach.
Pizza Hut is talking to cybersecurity experts to further evaluate the incident and ensure they are protected against another attack. Affected customers are advised to look out for scams asking for personal information because of the hack, The Miami Herald reported.
