Zumiez posts smaller-than-expected loss
Everett, Wash. Sports retailer Zumiez reported a second-quarter loss on Thursday due to charges to settle a lawsuit and a decline in same-store sales amid the recession.
The company posted a loss of $3.1 million, compared with a year-ago profit of $2.7 million. a year ago. Results in the most recent quarter included charges of 3 cents per share to settle a lawsuit.
Revenue declined 8% to $85.2 million, from $92.3 million.
The results still beat estimates of analysts.
Same-store sales fell 18.8%.
"As the second quarter progressed, we experienced improved sales trends throughout the majority of our store base, which allowed us to once again exceed our initial projections," said Rick Brooks, Zumiez CEO, in a statement.
