Zara to Expand in India

2/6/2009

La Coruna, Spain Inditex, the Spanish company that owns Zara, plans to bring the fast-fashion retailer to India.

Inditex will take a 51% stake in a joint venture with Trent, the retail arm of conglomerate Tata Group, which already has a partnership with Tesco. The company expects to open Zara stores in Delhi, Mumbai and other Indian cities next year.

Indian law prevents overseas groups that sell more than one brand of merchandise from wholly owning retailing operations.
