X Games head to select H-E-B locations

5/15/2014

H-E-B and men's grooming brand Axe have partnered with the X Games to launch an innovative shopper marketing promotion that will reward consumers with an exclusive performance by X Games athletes at local H-E-B stores.

Between May 17 and June 1 in select San Antonio, Houston and Austin locations, consumers will have a chance to watch professional skaters and bikers perform tricks, listen to music and get free products in the parking lots of H-E-B. The promotion will allow customers to engage with the athletes, earn a chance to win X Games tickets to the Austin X Games (June 5-8), receive free Axe samples and get autographs from past and present X Games athletes.

"Here at Axe we're all about firsts, and we're excited to be partnering with H-E-B to provide this new opportunity for guys and girls who are hugely passionate about extreme sports to experience them in their community," said Matthew McCarthy, senior director, Axe and men's grooming for Unilever.

The events are free and are located in San Antonio, Houston and Austin on the following dates:

  • San Antonio 5/17: 6030 Montgomery Road, San Antonio

  • San Antonio 5/18: 6818 South Zarzamora, San Antonio

  • Houston 5/24: 9503 Jones Road, Houston

  • Austin 5/31: 500 Canyon Ridge Drive, Austin

  • Austin 6/1: 2800 E. Whitestone Blvd., Cedar Park

As a part of this promotion, digital and mobile solutions company CausePlay has launched and is operating an Indiegogo campaign (www.indiegogo.com/projects/operation-homefront ) to help support Operation Homefront, a national nonprofit organization that supports families of service members and wounded warriors. Supporters can go to this link to bid on extreme athlete goods and VIP experiences, with a portion of the proceeds raised through the Indiegogo campaign donated to Operation Homefront.

"Operation Homefront is excited to partner with AXE and H-E-B to get some needed financial assistance to our service members," said Liza Watts, director of corporate relations for Operation Homefront. "The X-Games promotions at local H-E-B stores are going to be a blast, and will give us a wonderful chance to engage with extreme sports fans who want to support our military families."
