Winning With Style

5/1/2007

Chain Store Age celebrated the 25th anniversary of its Retail Store of the Year design competition with a dinner and reception in March at the Walt Disney World Dolphin Resort in Lake Buena Vista, Fla. Retailers, designers and architects of the award-winning projects attended the event, which was sponsored by Access 360 Media, Los Angeles, and Bose Corp., Framingham, Mass.

Barneys New York’s Dallas flagship took top honors in the competition. Designed by Gensler, New York City, it was chosen as best overall entry and also placed first in the soft lines category (greater than 15,000 sq. ft.) and exterior category (greater than 15,000 sq. ft.).

In addition to the grand prize, individual awards were given in a variety of retail categories. Special awards were given to The Home Depot (brand extension), Payless ShoeSource (brand reinvention), Motorola RED (design for a cause) and Goasis (customer amenities).

Barneys New York and all the other honored projects were featured in the February issue of Chain Store Age. Additional photos of the winners and information on the Retail Store of the Year competition can be found on www.chainstoreage.com.
