Whole Foods Market reveals opening date, other details for new 365 store format

4/7/2016

Whole Foods Market will take the wraps off its new value concept, 365 by Whole Foods Market, on May 25 in Silver Lake, California.

Two additional 365 locations will open in 2016 – in Bellevue, Washington, and Portland, Oregon. Up to 10 stores are expected to open in 2017.

The new format includes a program called “Friends of 365,” whereby select businesses and entrepreneurs that align with Whole Foods’ mission and values can establish their own independent retail spaces inside of stores. The Silver Lake store will feature several of these, including a craft brew bar from Allegro Coffee Company that will serve hot coffee, cold beer and a selection of food items. Toronto-based startup teaBOT will install a self-serve kiosk that allows customers to personalize tea by mixing up to three of 18 different teas and herbal ingredients.

In addition, the store will house an outpost of New York-based vegan eatery by Chloe that will include a sit-down restaurant as well as to-go items.

“With each store, we’re looking to curate a unique experience,” said Jeff Turnas, president of 365 by Whole Foods Market. “We’ve really dedicated ourselves to partnering with like-minded companies that are doing new and interesting things in their respective field to bring a truly unique shopping experience that complements our thoughtfully curated selection of foods.”

For added convenience, 365 stores will offer online ordering and delivery services through Instagram. The chain is also partnering with sustainable casual goods maker Loomstate to custom design uniforms for store associates.

It noted that Loomstate was chosen for its contemporary looks, sustainable practices and commitment to organic products.
