Whole Foods gives incentive for workers to lose weight
Austin, Texas Whole Foods Market plans to give discounts to employees who lose weight and improve their health, according to a Bloomberg report.
Workers will receive discounts of 20%, rising to 30%, based on blood pressure, cholesterol levels, body-mass index and whether they smoke or not. The program is voluntary and begins in January.
"We're making an investment and we expect a return," CEO John Mackey told Bloomberg, referring to potential savings in healthcare costs.
Whole Foods spent $150 million on self-insured health coverage last year.
