Whole Foods debuts new concept
BOULDER, Colo. Whole Foods is coming up with a new concept, and convenience is the key. It plans to convert an 18,500-square-foot Wild Oats store on Baseline Road in Boulder, Colo. into a new concept called Whole Foods Market Express, according to published reports.
Located near the University of Colorado, it is described as a grab-and-go concept. The concept could, potentially, be a competitive vehicle that the company can employ in the Southwest versus Tesco. As Tesco ramps up its California based Fresh & Easy store convenience store concept, Whole Foods has nearly 45 locations, about 15% of its store base, operating in California. Whole Foods also operates six units under the Whole Foods and Fresh & Wild banners in the United Kingdom where Tesco, of course, is based and where Tesco Express is a top convenince banner.
