Jay Carney spent three years parsing words as president Barack Obama’s top spokesman and now has joined Amazon.com as senior vice president of worldwide corporate affairs, according to Politico.
The online news outlet focused on the Washington, D.C., political scene said Carney would report directly to Amazon.com CEO Jeff Bezos in the newly created position and split his time between Amazon.com’s Seattle headquarters and D.C. Carney will oversee Amazon’s public relations and lobbying efforts and relinquish his position as a political commentator on CNN, according to Politico.
Carney resigned as Obama's press secretary in June after spending three year in the high profile position subjected to relentless grilling from the White House press corp.
The Carney hire further bolsters Amazon's political ties to Washington. When Bezos bought The Washington Post in 2013, the purchase was widely seen as a way for Bezos to exert political influence in the nation's capital.
