Whirlpool announces integration with Nest

6/24/2014

Starting with a washer and dryer, Whirlpool products will be getting smarter with the help of Nest’s learning thermostat. The appliance company plans to integrate some of its products with Nest’s thermostat.

In the case of the Works with Nest washer and dryer, users can use the Whirlpool Smart Appliance app to connect to their Nest account and thermostat. The appliances will be able to restart the washer and dryer, or move into a longer drying cycle when nobody is home.

"Our relationship with Nest underscores our commitment to developing innovations that answer and anticipate consumers' needs," Brett Dibkey. Whirlpools’s VP and GM of integrated business units said. "At Whirlpool Corporation, we are focused creating dynamic consumer experiences that make a house feel like a home."

The front-loading washer and dryer are sold at the Home Depot, as is the Nest Learning Thermostat. The thermostat retails for $249.
