What’S Hot: Cropping Up

12/10/2007

Cropped pants are making as much of a splash in the maternity department as on the missy floor—becoming one of the staple, year-round items in the mommy-to-be wardrobe.

“We are getting lots of interest in the variety in the alternative length for bottoms,” said Pamela Ireland, special sizes market analyst at The Doneger Group.

Both capris and skimmers are playing up the shorter lengths. Previously, the skimmer was ranging between 14 inches and 17 inches and the capri from 19 inches to 23 inches. With the new season ensuing, both styles will be about 1 inch shorter.

The trend will be seen across the board, as well as in product development, said Ireland. Motherhood Maternity (pictured), Wal-Mart and Target carry a wide selection that spans cuffed capris, denim and cargo-styled crops.

The variety of leg lengths can be correlated to the in-flux of skinny and wide-legged styles, making the cropped pant a year-round trend.
