One well-known technology provider takes the top spot in installed worldwide revenue for both retail software and retail software-as-a-service (SaaS).
According to a new study from IHL Group, “Total Retail Software Market,” Microsoft is ranked number one in both categories. IHL estimates the total worldwide retail software market is currently worth $44 billion and will grow 48% in the next five years. Microsoft’s share of retail software is estimated at $5.98 billion in installed revenue.
In addition, retail SaaS cloud spending is expected to grow 389% in the next five years.
According to IHL, these are the five leading retail software companies by installed revenue:

"As retailers look to remove hardware systems and move towards unified commerce, the software and SaaS market is exploding in size," said Greg Buzek, president of IHL Group. "Microsoft at $5.98 billion and Oracle at $3.67 billion in estimated retail revenue are the clear leaders overall, but many vendors are seeing strong growth in a variety of categories such as business intelligence, e-commerce, sales and marketing, merchandising and supply chain, and store systems."
