12/3/2015

One well-known technology provider takes the top spot in installed worldwide revenue for both retail software and retail software-as-a-service (SaaS).

According to a new study from IHL Group, “Total Retail Software Market,” Microsoft is ranked number one in both categories. IHL estimates the total worldwide retail software market is currently worth $44 billion and will grow 48% in the next five years. Microsoft’s share of retail software is estimated at $5.98 billion in installed revenue.

In addition, retail SaaS cloud spending is expected to grow 389% in the next five years.

According to IHL, these are the five leading retail software companies by installed revenue:

1. Microsoft

2. Oracle

3. IBM

4. NCR

5. SAP

These are the top five retail SaaS companies by installed revenue:

1. Microsoft

2. Demandware

3. IBM

4. eBay Enterprises

5. Oracle

"As retailers look to remove hardware systems and move towards unified commerce, the software and SaaS market is exploding in size," said Greg Buzek, president of IHL Group. "Microsoft at $5.98 billion and Oracle at $3.67 billion in estimated retail revenue are the clear leaders overall, but many vendors are seeing strong growth in a variety of categories such as business intelligence, e-commerce, sales and marketing, merchandising and supply chain, and store systems."
