Wet Seal profit slides 69%

Foothill Ranch, Calif. Wet Seal said Thursday its fiscal second-quarter profit tumbled 69% on declines in same-store sales.

Wet Seal earned $3.1 million for the quarter that ended Aug. 1. That compares with a profit of $10.1 million for the same quarter last year.

Sales fell 9% to $136.4 million from $149.1 million. Same-store sales fell 12% for Wet Seal and 4% for Arden B.
