Weis Markets records 5.2% profit rise in Q1

Sunbury, Pa. Weis Markets reported Tuesday that the grocer recorded an increase in net earnings of 5.2%, from $16.5 million a year earlier to $17.4 million.

For the quarter ended March 27, the company's sales increased 9.6% to $664.3 million, compared with $606.2 million for the same period in 2009.

Comp-store sales rose 3.0%. 

Weis Markets operates 164 stores in its home state of Pennsylvania and in Maryland; New York; New Jersey; and West Virginia.
