Weis Markets Q1 earnings up 82.4%

Sunbury, Pa. Strong Easter sales helped Weis Markets increase its first quarter net income 82.4% to $16.5 million, compared with the same period a year ago. For the 13-week period ending March 28, the company’s sales increased 1.8% to $606.2 million. Meanwhile, it’s same-store sales increased 1.6%.

The company’s sales were impacted by the late Easter holiday sales period, which occurred just prior to the end of supermarket’s first quarter.
