Weis Markets profit up 19% in Q2

Sunbury, Pa. Weis Markets said Monday that its second-quarter profit climbed 19% on improved sales of perishables and private-label items.

Net income grew to $15.2 million compared with $12.8 million a year earlier.

Sales for the period ended June 27 edged up 2% to $615.4 million from $603.4 million, while same-store sales rose 2.4%.

Weis Markets operates 154 stores in Pennsylvania, Maryland, New Jersey, New York and West Virginia.
