Wegmans Plans Huge Baltimore Store

Hunt Valley, Md., Even by Wegman’s lofty standards, the Rochester, N.Y.-based specialty grocer’s newest store is large. On Oct. 2, Wegmans will open a new 140,000-sq.-ft. supermarket in the Hunt Valley Towne Center. Normal Wegmans stores fall in the 80,00-sq.-ft. to 130,000 sq. ft., so the company’s first venture into the state of Maryland may be its biggest yet.

According to the Baltimore Business Journal, local grocers are already bracing for the impact of Wegmans by providing more produce, specialty items and organic food to their customers. Wegmans already runs 68 stores in New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania and Virginia.
