Seattle -- In addition to buying a television on Amazon.com, customers can now schedule and pay for its installation. On Monday, the Internet giant officially launched Amazon Home Services, a marketplace that allows customers to buy 700 professional services, ranging from car maintenance to house cleaning. The new service available in major U.S. metropolitan areas including New York City, Los Angeles, San Francisco and Seattle, puts Amazon in competition with such popular online service platforms such as Craigslist and Angie’s List.
According to Amazon, in less than 60 seconds, customers can purchase and schedule hundreds of professional services, choosing from a selection of handpicked pros offering upfront pricing on pre-packaged services with helpful reviews from customers that have made verified purchases.
Professional services are available in an array of categories, including home improvement, computer & electronics, lawn & garden, lessons, and automotive.
According to reports, Amazon Home Services will have a revenue share model with its service providers. The retailer will charge a 5% transaction fee, along with platform fees ranging from 10% for custom services and 15% for standardized services.
