Walmart CEO congratulates Sylvia Mathews Burwell on presidential nomination
Walmart president and CEO Doug McMillon today issued a statement congratulating Sylvia Mathews Burwell on her nomination as Secretary of Health and Human Services.
“We are very proud the president has asked Sylvia to take on this critical position,” he said. “Sylvia has a strong record of working collaboratively with businesses and government on some of the most pressing issues facing Americans. She understands the needs of people and communities and has consistently delivered strong results that have a positive impact on society. It's crucial to have a leader like Sylvia in this role, and we stand ready to work with the administration on solutions that provide more Americans with even greater access to affordable healthcare.”
Burwell is the director of the White House Office of Management and Budget. She has been in that role since April 2013. Prior to that, she served as president of the Walmart Foundation, having assumed the post January 2012.
Burwell’s nomination comes following current Secretary of Health and Human Services Kathleen Sebelius’ resignation from the post.
