Walgreens September sales up 9.5%

DEERFIELD, Ill. Walgreens today reported September sales of $4.4 billion an increase of 9.5% from $4.03 billion for the same month in 2006. Sales in comparable stores rose 4.7%.

September pharmacy sales increased 8.8%, while comparable-pharmacy sales increased 3.9%. Pharmacy sales accounted for 66.4% of total sales for the month.

Comparable store front-end sales increased 6.3% during September.

Calendar year-to-date sales were $40.4 billion, an increase of 11.9% from $36.1 billion in 2006.
