Walgreens Expanding to Alaska

5/29/2008

Deerfield, Ill. Walgreen Co. will open its first stores in Alaska in 2009, giving the chain a presence in all 50 states, plus the District of Columbia and Puerto Rico.

The first store is planned for Anchorage, with an opening date of summer 2009. Two more locations are expected to open by the end of that year. The company is initially focusing on Anchorage and Southcentral Alaska.

This is only the beginning of Walgreens’ expansion into Alaska.

“We’re going to make substantial investments in Alaska in the years ahead,” said William Hose, Walgreens VP of store operations for Alaska.
