Walgreen buys 17 drug stores in Tennessee

New York City Walgreen Co. is buying the prescription files and assets of 17 Super D and Ike's locations in and around Memphis, Tenn.

Walgreen and USA Drug, which owns the Ike's and Super D chains, did not disclose financial terms. The prescription files will be transferred to nearby Walgreen locations. The deal includes 16 Super D stores and one of the three Ike's stores.

Walgreen said it is in talks to buy the other two Ike's locations. If it is successful it said it plans to keep those stores open.

Walgreen runs 7,179 stores in 50 states, Washington, D.C., and Puerto Rico. USA Drug operates USA Drug and Super D stores in Arkansas; Illinois; Iowa; Mississippi; Missouri; Tennessee; Texas; and Wisconsin.
