Wal-Mart Revamping In-Store TV Network

7/29/2008

Bentonville, Ark. Wal-Mart plans to unveil details of its second-generation in-store digital TV and signage network at dual presentations in New York and Northwest Arkansas on Sept. 3, according to an AdAge report. The network will be called the Wal-Mart Smart Network.

The report cited an executive familiar with the plans, noting that the concept involves moving TV screens closer to eye level that can be incorporated into product displays.

The company has plans to create interactive "virtual assistants" that help customers get product information and refine choices in key categories, the report said.

Previously, Wal-Mart tested a similar concept idea this year with Procter & Gamble Co.'s Olay for You online recommendation engine for use in stores, the report indicated.
