Wal-Mart gaining on prescription drug sales
COLUMBUS, Ohio Wal-Mart is gaining on Walgreens share of prescription drug sales, a new study from BIGresearch found.
According to BIGresearch's July Retail Ratings Report, Walgreens was the top choice for prescription drugs (with 14.4% of those surveyed saying they shop there most often), however this was down almost a full point from July 2007 (with 15.2% of those surveyed saying they shop at the store). Conversely, 10.4% of those surveyed said they went to Wal-Mart for their prescriptions compared with 8.4% last year.
“The current economic environment appears to be helping Wal-Mart increase their share among lower income shoppers,” said Pam Goodfellow, senior Analyst at BIGresearch. “Wal-Mart’s growth seems to be at the expense of Walgreens and CVS.”
