Wal-Mart Fends Off Foes
Bentonville, Ark., Despite an onslaught of consumer unrest, manifested most recently by a grassroots campaign powered by WakeUpWalMart.com, which raised questions about the retailer’s pricing practices, Wal-Mart has survived, even thrived. The retailer announced Saturday that, thanks in large part to stellar “Black Friday” sales, the retailer is expecting a 4.3% gain in same-store sales for November.
As WakeUpWalMart.com gains momentum, distributing over a million flyers to 36 states and 102 cities that urge consumers to call a hotline to report being charged the wrong price at a store, Wal-Mart watchers will be on the alert for negative consequences—but, so far, none seem forthcoming.
