Wal-Mart Experiments with Solar Power

5/21/2007

BENTONVILLE, ARK. —Wal-Mart is launching a pilot project to determine its solar power viability. The company said it has purchased solar power from providers BP Solar, SunEdison and PowerLight for 22 combined Wal-Mart stores, Sam’s Clubs and distribution centes in Hawaii and California. By Wal-Mart’s estimates, installing the solar power systems will help reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 6,500 metric tons to 10,000 metric tons per year.
