Vizio makes licensing deal with Curtis International

6/21/2012

IRVINE, Calif. — Vizio has agreed to let Curtis International Ltd., which sells digital televisions in the United States and Canada under the Curtis brand, become a licensee under Vizio's QAM patent portfolio. The parties have not disclosed financial terms of the agreement under which Curtis has agreed to make royalty payments to Vizio for sales of licensed products.

"We are pleased with the result of our patent licensing efforts. It further demonstrates the technical strength and value of VIZIO's patent portfolio," said Rob Brinkman, Vizio chief administrative officer.

The signing of the QAM license with Curtis also concludes actions brought against Curtis by Vizio in the International Trade Commission and in U.S. District Court. "Having successfully resolved the disputes, we shall continue to aggressively protect our rights and actively expand VIZIO's licensing program," added Brinkman.

Vizio, headquartered in Irvine, California, is the top seller of flat panel HDTVs in North America and became the first American brand in over a decade to lead in U.S. TV sales.
