Update: International Home and Housewares Show
CHICAGO Not unexpectedly, sustainability was a key issue at the International Home and Housewares Show, which kicked off yesterday at Chicago’s McCormick Place. Lifetime Brands, in fact, unveiled an initiative, Eco World, which it plans to roll out across its various brands, starting with Pedrini, that will impact both packaging and product, such as plastics made from mixed plant starches the have higher melt temperatures and abrasion resistance than those made strictly from corn. Chefs and cookware still go together. Concept Housewares is introducing a new line of woks and accessories with Katie Chin, host of the PBS television show “Double Happiness,” that offer silicone grips in a variety of colors that will be priced in sets from $39.99 to $49.99. T-Fal debuted a line of cooking appliances with Emeril Lagasse that currently consists of a three-in-one food processor and a bread maker that also easily makes baguettes, both MSRP $149.
Health remains an issue that is impacting housewares, and Blueair introduced a new E Series that includes a dust sensor in four models ranging in MSRP from $399 to $999.
Rubbermaid offered a range of new products including easy-to-install closet and garage systems, as well as food storage that offers bottom-clicking lids so they can be secured in storage.
Simplicity was a focal point for World Kitchen’s Corelle brand with a grip to make it as convenient for outdoor use as indoor. The price range is $59 to $69 for 16-piece sets and it ships in December.
“This year it’s Hanna and High School For us,” said Zaks spokesman Chris Cogley, referring to the company’s licenses for Hanna Montana and High School Musical appearing on a wide range of tabletop and food storage aimed at kids, tweens and teens, including a new line of cooler bags with an $9.99 price point and a spring ship.
