Unions Ratify Dominick’s Contracts

Chicago, Dominick’s employees represented by United Food and Commercial Workers Locals 1546 and 881 here ratified two separate three-year contracts, ending three years of negotiations with Dominick’s parent, Pleasanton, Calif.-based Safeway. Union employees have been working under an extension of a contract that expired Oct. 6, 2002. Safeway CEO Steve Burd said the ratification would allow Safeway to reinvest in store remodels in the Chicago area.
