Union Splinter Group Targets Wal-Mart
St. Louis, The Change to Win Coalition, a labor group comprised of unions that broke off from the AFL-CIO, held its inaugural convention in St. Louis today. Represented in the group are seven unions including the Teamsters, the Service Employees International Union, and the United Food and Commercial Workers. They represent about 5.4 million workers.
Coalition leaders, including Teamsters president James P. Hoffa and UNITE HERE president Bruce Raynor, vowed to organize Wal-Mart employees. In response, Wal-Mart pointed to its long record of employee votes against unionization.
