Trade organizations looking to merge

3/26/2015

At the recent GlobalShop show in Las Vegas two trade groups serving the visual merchandising industry said their boards voted to pursue a merger agreement.

The boards of directors of the Association for Retail Environments (ARE) and the Point of Purchase Advertising International (POPAI) voted to enter a due diligence phase and work in good faith toward a definitive agreement to merge the two associations.

The announcement followed the organizations respective board meetings held during GlobalShop during which the groups agreed to a preliminary framework that will allow them to better serve their members and advance the industry as a combined organization.

“It is clear to us that the memberships of both organizations have much in common, and that the entire industry will benefit greatly from our combining forces,” said Michelle Adams with Marketing Brainology and chairman of POPAI, an organization established in 1936 to serve the in-store marketing industry. “This is a true unification of equals. These two venerable associations bring complementary strengths to the table. Together, it will be a case of one plus one equals three,” said ARE’s president Bob Rosean with TJ Hale.

ARE was established in 1956 as the National Association of Store Fixture Manufacturers and today exists as a non-profit trade association representing the retail environments industry.
