IBM has partnered with Tractor Supply Company to revamp and migrate the retailer’s online operation to provide Tractor Supply customers with an easier way to connect, browse and shop for goods and services online.
At the heart of the solution is a completely redesigned website for Tractor Supply that provides optimal viewing across all devices, easier integration with social media pages, and a simplified check-out process.
Behind the scenes, the company migrated the entire platform to a new IBM Cloud for greater overall business performance.
"At Tractor Supply Company, we are committed to deepening the relationships we have with our customers, and the newly redesigned TractorSupply.com website allows us to do that in an impactful way," said Rob Mills, senior VP and chief information officer of Tractor Supply Company. "IBM Cloud is more agile and has management capabilities that let us respond quickly to market and individual customer needs, the direct result of which is a better customer experience."
Key to the infrastructure overhaul was the migration of the website, which was built on IBM Commerce, from a software-as-a-service platform delivered through two distinct partners to IBM Cloud.
“The website redesign and infrastructure has laid a foundation that will enable ongoing enhancements for our digital customers into the future," Mills said. "Examples include enhanced search to make it easier to find the products and services they need, integration of customer orders in the store and online, as well as improved analytics which will drive personalization. We will also make it easier for our customers to pay, with support for multiple payment methods and types. Lastly, other enhancements may include an expanded assortment, more product information, as well as community information to help our customers with ‘Life Out Here’ store and local events. Our use of cloud-based technology will also enable us with higher reliability and performance for our customers, agility to deliver environments faster and respond to changing customer needs, and scale to support growth.”
With the new Infrastructure-as-a-service architecture, Tractor Supply Company gains improved overall system performance and the ability to scale quickly based on market demands, and greater operational visibility.
Other new features of TractorSupply.com include simplified categories to make shopping and browsing more intuitive, an enhanced store locator capability, easier social integration and new product review features.
Mills concluded: "Through the new user interface, easier integration with social media and responsive web design support for mobile devices, we are now able to provide our customers with a more seamless shopping experience in-store and online. This is especially key during our events such as Pet Appreciation Week and Chick Days. When customers are researching and shopping online their experience will be consistent no matter what device they prefer. We have also made it much easier for customers to locate their nearest Tractor Supply store if this is their preferred method of shopping. With additional fulfillment opportunities, our customers now have more choices in how they receive products, including store fulfillment options.”
