Toys "R" Us gains flexibility in Canada


The Canadian division of Toys "R" Us has added new distribution capacity in British Columbia to receive imports and improve shipping to local stores.

The 180,000-sq.-ft. facility, located in the Vancouver suburb of Delta, is the retailer’s third Canadian distribution center. It is strategically positioned to receive goods from overseas and domestic manufacturers who can now ship directly to British Columbia for distribution to local Toys"R"Us and Babies"R"Us stores.

"The new west coast distribution center provides us with the additional capacity and flexibility to service our customers and distribution needs in Western Canada," said Krista Collinson, VP of logistics, ecommerce and business development for Toys"R"Us, Canada.  "With the holiday season quickly approaching, we are well-positioned to deliver ongoing shipments of the hottest toys to our stores, so shoppers have the best chance of finding that must-have gift in-stock at Toys"R"Us."

The retailer worked with SCI Logistics to outfit the new facility with cross-docking, transload, order fulfillment and store replenishment capabilities through the use of a fully automated sortation system. The facility is staffed by SCI Logistics employees and is designed in such a way that it is scalable to support the large seasonal swings of the retail business.

The new DC began ramping up in late summer to ensure it was fully ready to meet the increased demands of the holiday shopping season, according to the company. Toys "R" Us operates 74 stores in Canada.
