Towers of power have SC Johnson looking greener

One year after beginning operation, two 415 foot tall wind turbines at SC Johnsons’ Mt. Pleasant, Wis., manufacturing facility are helping the facility generate 100% of its power needs on site.

The mammoth turbines are located at the company’s largest manufacturing facility known as “waxdale” which encompasses an area the size of 36 football fields. It’s where brands such as Glade, Windex, Pledge, Scrubbing Bubbles, Shout, Raid and OFF! are manufactured.

The wind power from the turbines significantly contribute to SC Johnson's renewable energy goals and cut nearly 6,000 metric tons of greenhouse gas during their first year of operation. The company recently reported that it is on track to reach its five-year goal of sourcing 33% of its global energy from renewable sources.

Semrau, chief sustainability officer at SC Johnson. "The results achieved with the wind turbines at our Waxdale facility are just one example that demonstrate our desire to lessen our footprint and positively impact communities around the world."



Over the past decade, the company has undertaken 10 renewable energy initiatives around the globe, including wind power, solar, and cogeneration. These initiatives have reduced greenhouse gas emissions by more than 110,500 metric tons per year, which is equivalent to the emissions from 23,021 passenger vehicles or the emissions from 4,604,167 propane tanks used for home barbeque grills.
