Three Stater Bros. stores earn EPA's GreenChill Award

5/3/2011

SAN BERNARDINO, Calif. — Stater Bros. announced that three of its supermarkets have received the Environmental Protection Agency's GreenChill Award.

The regional chain said that the stores, all located in Southern California, earned the Gold Award from the EPA, the second-highest award offered by the agency to businesses that use refrigerants that do not harm the earth's ozone layer.

This marked another green achievement for Stater Bros., which introduced a "Green Waste" composting program in 2009 in all of its 167 supermarket locations to turn organic waste into compost that is sold to area farmers.

"Stater Bros. is very proud to receive these awards from the EPA's GreenChill Partnership," Stater Bros. chairman and CEO Jack Brown said. "We are happy to be doing our part to protect our Planet Earth, and we are especially pleased that the EPA has recognized our environmental achievements."
