Criminals have reportedly been targeting some Walmart stores with credit card skimming devices illicitly placed on POS terminals.
According to the Krebs on Security blog, the skimmers are designed to overlay legitimate self-payment card readers manufactured by Ingenico and have been found at Walmart locations in Fredericksburg, Virginia and Fort Wright, Kentucky.
“We have zero tolerance for any crime against our customers, our associates or our company," said Deisha Barnett, Walmart spokesperson. "As soon as we heard about the possible fraudulent activity in a handful of our U.S. stores, we took action to protect our customers. We are working with law enforcement authorities to investigate this activity and are taking additional steps to help ensure that our customers’ transactions are safe, including increasing store inspections.”
