Target, United Way deliver a holly, jolly holiday

ALEXANDRIA, Va. — Target is teaming up with the United Way for the 22nd consecutive year to bring families in need some holiday cheer.



Target stores across the country will donate more than $200,000 worth of holiday trees to the charitable organization, as part of the Target Share-a-Tree Program. The United Way and its volunteers will distribute the trees to families in need, shelters, community centers and childcare programs.



"United Way is proud of our longstanding partnership with Target on this special program that makes the holidays a little bit brighter for families," said United Way Worldwide president and CEO Brian Gallagher. "We appreciate Target's leadership in communities nationwide and hope Share-a-Tree inspires everyone to find unique ways to give back and lift someone else's spirit."



Target employees also got into the spirit of giving, and volunteered more than 475,000 hours in 2012 in communities across the country.



"The holiday season is about sharing with others, especially those in need," said president of Target Community Relations and Target Foundation Laysha Ward.
