Target tops Walmart and Kmart
AConsumer Reports reader survey featured in the May issue showed higher levels of satisfaction with the shopping experience at Target compared with Walmart and Kmart. The magazine polled 6,903 of its online subscribers last October, and Target received a satisfaction score of 79 compared with Walmart and Kmart, which both registered a 68. Costco toped the ranking with a score of 85, while Kohl’s was tied with Target at 79. JCPenney scored a 78, while Sears, Sam’s Club and Macy’s all scored 76. According to Consumer Reports, a score of 80 equates to a very satisfied rating, while a score of 60 equals fairly well satisfied. The publication also pointed out that the scores, “might not reflect the U.S. population,” as results are based on attitudes of subscribers.
Elsewhere in the same issue, SuperTarget was rated 20th out of 59 supermarkets in a separate survey of 32,599 subscribers. Survey respondents were asked questions about service, perishables, price and cleanliness. SuperTarget score well on price and cleanliness, but was average when it came to service and perishables. Chains such as Wegman’s, Trader Joe’s, Publix, Raley’s and Harris Teeter topped the list.
