Target reshuffles senior grocery leadership

7/10/2013

Key changes that took effect last week within Target’s merchandising organization are intended to maximize the retailer’s long range opportunities within the rapidly growing grocery business.

Food and consumables categories have been the strongest performers at Target since the retailer embarked on PFresh store remerchandising initiative four years ago. As that massive undertaking enters its final stages this year and next, Target’s EVP of merchandising and supply chain, Kathee Tesija, announced several category realignments within the grocery categories that took effect on July 7.

For example, VP/GMM David Mirelez retained his responsibilities for produce, bakery, deli and food avenue, but his responsibilities for the meat category were assigned to VP/GMM Tom Olson, according to the announcement from Tesija. In addition to meat, Olson retained his responsibilities for the dairy and frozen categories, but his oversight of the dry grocery business was assigned to VP/MM Rachael Vegas. She is also responsible for candy and snacks. Her prior responsibilities for pets beverages and liquor were assigned to Nikhil Nayar who was named VP/MM after previously serving as VP of Target.com and mobile merchandising.
