Target joins Wal-Mart and Amazon in book price war

Minneapolis Target Corp. entered the hardcover price war already being waged by Wal-Mart and Amazon, according to a report in the Minneapolis/St. Paul Business Journal.

The move by Target ratchets up the stakes in the price battle between Amazon and Wal-Mart, which began last week with a $10 offer by Wal-Mart for online preorders of high-profile books. Amazon fired back, and the price quickly dropped to $8.99.

Target will sell pre-ordered hardcover books for $8.99.
