Target gets jump on Cyber Week

11/27/2013

Early this week, Target began to generate traffic to its e-commerce site ahead of Cyber Week. They offered REDcard holders an exclusive online Black Friday preview sale, and Cartwheel app users Black Friday-like deals.

Cartwheel is the digital savings program that allows guests to choose in-store offers and claim savings directly from their smartphones, which Target began rolling out earlier this year.

The retailer made nearly all its Black Friday doorbusters available online in the early hours of Thanksgiving Day. The retailer is also offering coupons valid for 20% off nearly all items of a single, storewide purchase during the first week of December to shoppers who spend $75 or more in Target stores or online on Black Friday. The strategy not only drives traffic to both its brick-and-mortar and e-commerce businesses but also generates return visits.

“We’re excited to offer our guests more discounts than ever before and introduce great new digital ways to save this year,” said Jason Goldberger, SVP of Target.com and mobile. “Whether online, on their phones or in stores, Target guests will find deep discounts and competitive pricing on a wide variety of the season’s most popular holiday gifts.”

And then, of course, there is Cyber Week, which kicks off Sunday, Dec. 1, and which Target will be promoted using broadcast television spots for the first time. Throughout the week, more than 100,000 items will be on sale, including category-wide deals on toys, women’s and men’s apparel. Target is also extending free shipping on more than 300 of toys through the entire holiday season. Shoppers using a Target REDcard credit or debit card will continue to receive another 5% off purchases and free shipping on Target.com.
