Target to expand grocery efforts

5/12/2009

Minneapolis Target Corp. aims to expand its offerings of fresh food and produce in 100 of its general merchandise stores by the end of 2009. The move is part of an effort to boost sales.

The company said it might eventually add mini-groceries at most of its 1,300 Target stores.

Target first tested the new format last year at its stores in the Minneapolis area. The company added eight test locations in other states earlier this year.

The test stores now carry 50% to 200% more food products than traditional general merchandise stores.
