Swap.com expands into women's apparel

3/11/2015

Online consignment marketplace Swap.com is expanding into women’s clothing, shoes and accessories.

Executives with Swap.com said the new women’s collection will launch with more than 25,000 items.

“The expansion into women’s apparel is not just about making it easier for our customers to buy and sell their gently loved clothes and handbags,” said Jesse Gonzalez, merchandising manager at Swap.com. “It’s also about offering the fashionable looks that our customers love, at a better deal than you can find in-stores.”

Swap.com’s launch into women’s apparel comes at a time when the company is already experiencing rapid growth. With less than 60 employees, the company has grown its sales more than 900% over the previous 12 months, with average daily sales growing 33% from January through February of this year.

The company offers a selection of more than 250,000 items, and adds more than 60,000 new items each month. Swap.com offers sellers the most profitable commission structure of any consignment store, paying sellers up to 80% of their sales proceeds.

Nearly 20,000 new customers registered in January and February 2015, roughly the same amount as the entire fourth quarter of 2014.

“It’s been an exciting 18 months for the Swap.com team — and our customers,” said Jussi Koskinen, co-founder of Swap.com. “Launching women’s apparel brings our company one step closer to realizing its vision—becoming the world’s best and biggest one-stop, consumer-to-consumer online department store.”

Illinois-based Swap.com launched in 2013.
