Brooklyn, N.Y. – If you’re wondering whether you should become an Etsy seller, being young, female, and a parent may be factors in your favor. According to a new survey of 4,000 U.S. Etsy sellers conducted by the online handmade crafts marketplace, 86% of Etsy sellers are women.
In addition, Etsy sellers are twice as likely to be under the age of 35 and many are parents with children at home.
Looking at Etsy seller attitudes, 76% of Etsy sellers consider their shops to be businesses, 30% focus on their creative businesses as their sole occupation and 90% wish to grow their sales in the future. In addition, 71% of sellers agree that growing their businesses sustainably and responsibly is important to them.
In terms of financial issues, 17% of Etsy sellers have household income under $25,000, annually. For 70%, their creative business contributes an average of 15% to total household income overall, and 44% use this income for necessary household expenses.
