Supervalu, Whole Foods announce job cuts

BOISE, Idaho & AUSTIN, Texas Supervalu has announced that it will cut 24 jobs at its Boise, Idaho, headquarters due to the difficult economy. The reductions will affect about 100 members of Supervalu's IT staff.

Additionally, the reduction of 12 Boise-based jobs in the company's infrastructure services area will occur this autumn, which is earlier than the planned dates of February and June 2009. The retailer announced plans to relocate these jobs to India.

Whole Foods Market also has announced plans to cut 49 jobs at its Austin, Texas, headquarters.

"Due to the current economic environment and the impact it is having on our business, Whole Foods Market regrets to announce that we are eliminating 49 out of its 650 positions that report to our global headquarters in Austin," the company said in a statement.

The retailer has not yet stated which departments will be affected.
