SuperValu Revamps Distribution

9/16/2008

Eden Prairie, Minn. As part of a mid-Atlantic supply chain overhaul, grocery chain SuperValu announced late Monday that it is consolidating three of its Pennsylvania distribution centers into one.

The restructuring will take place over three years, the company said, and put SuperValu's distribution for Eastern Pennsylvania into a single 1.4 million-sq.-ft. site in Lancaster County, midway between Philadelphia and Harrisburg.

SuperValu will close distribution centers in Harrisburg, Pa., Easton, Pa., and Perryman, Md.

SuperValu recently sold its Harrisburg site for $30.3 million and is leasing it back until the company moves into the new facility.
