Supervalu removes trans fat from delis
EDEN PRAIRIE, Minn. Supervalu has announced today that it has begun making the switch to trans fat-free oil at its Acme, Albertsons, bigg's, Cub Foods, Farm Fresh, Hornbacher's, Jewel-Osco, Lucky, Shaw's, Shop 'n Save and Shoppers Food & Pharmacy stores. The company has switched to using canola oil, which, according to the company, is also lower in saturated fat, and expects the transition to be complete in all participating Supervalu banner stores by Labor Day.
"As a leading grocery retailer, Supervalu consistently looks for ways to improve our customers' lives by offering them better-for-you food options," said Mike Buck, vp of service deli merchandising. "Not only does this move to a new, zero trans fat cooking oil for our deli prepared foods help us better meet our customers' needs, the additional reduction of saturated fat allows our customers to enjoy the same great-tasting deli selections in a more healthful way."
